The Catholic Centre for immigrants (CCI) has been serving refugees and immigrants for more than 65 years.
CCI is a bridge between the 7,000 immigrants and refugees who come to Ottawa each year and the community. We provide programs and services to help newcomers settle and integrate. We also work in the community to promote the value of a diverse and more welcoming community for all.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Welcome House Manager, the Casual Night/Weekend Staff supports the work of Welcome House by ensuring the well-being of residents and the cleanliness and security of the building.

Responsibilities
Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of the residents at Reception House and/or Welcome House
Welcome and prepare for new arrivals, both expected and unexpected
Provide basic orientation to new residents
Assist residents with day-to-day activities (i.e. making phone calls)
Assist all residents in case of emergency
Ensure all residents, visitors, and volunteers respect the rules of the premises
Answer telephone calls, take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours
Ensure the clean and orderly condition of the premises
Prepare residents for moving out
Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as property damage or unusual occurrences
Other duties assigned by manager
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one year of experience in a related field.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, and a high degree of cross-cultural competence.
Skilled at de-escalation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
Demonstrates understanding of the newcomer experience.
Ability to perform duties independently and with minimal supervision.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to work alone.
Available to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace.
Current CPR/First Aid certification is
required.
Fluency in English is
required. Fluency in French and other languages is an asset.
