Primary Purpose of Position
Sinopec Canada has an opportunity for a Senior Landman to join the Business Development and Land team. The Senior Landman is a key member of the asset team accountable for the management, retention, negotiations, evaluation, and asset maximization of Sinopec Canadas mineral rights within the business unit.
The Landman will be based in Sinopec Canadas Calgary, Alberta head office.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day assignments including deal negotiations, review of upcoming expiries, monitoring industry activity, partner discussions, review of proposed non-operated development, supporting the different asset teams with evaluations/presentations etc.
- Monitor the Mineral Land Administrators to ensure that the expiries are handled in a timely manner and that continuation applications are submitted within the requisite time.
- Employ extensive mineral land experience by working closely with the different Property Teams technical personnel to determine, influence and execute the exploration/exploitation strategy in line with corporate goals.
- Identify, develop, and execute profitable opportunities within the different Property Teams, and enhance the companys land position via Crown land sale acquisitions, farmins/farmouts, swaps, joint ventures, asset acquisitions & divestitures.
- Monitor competitor activity within area of responsibility and ensure asset team is kept informed.
- Coordinate reports and land information flow with other team members and other disciplines within the Property Teams
- Use technical skills including Accumap and in-house production modules to evaluate the acquisition and disposition of mineral assets to enhance Sinopec Canadas mineral holdings.
- Ensure Sinopec Canadas compliance with Government Regulations as they pertain to mineral rights and land tenure.
- Work closely with Mineral Land Administration for monitoring and handling of multiple operation notices and contract obligations.
- Manage contract maintenance and compliance.
- Aide the Acquisitions & Divestitures (A & D) efforts of the company as needed through negotiations, due diligence or other matters, as requested.
- Work closely with the Manager, Land to draft agreements for farmins, farmouts, poolings, joint venture partnerships, acquisitions and divestitures. .
- Maintain and establish key industry contacts through effective networking.
- Assist Manager, Land in creating, implementing, and maintaining effective departmental processes and procedures.
- Provide mentorship, development, and training to support others on the Mineral Land team.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Extensive knowledge of Government and mineral regulations.
- Proven negotiating excellence, business sense and successfully working in a team.
- Possess a high level of enthusiasm and ability to excel in a multi-disciplinary, fast paced team environment that requires you to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Contract drafting knowledge/experience.
- Ability to work together in a team environment, work independently, and drive the business.
- Ability to understand and work well in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
- Strong knowledge of CS Explorer, Landview, Accumap, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are essential.
- Strong Verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications
- A bachelors degree or a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Petroleum Land Management
- Minimum of 5-7 years of mineral negotiating experience.
- Active member of CALEP in good standing
