Responsibilities
- Review and post vendor invoices and employee expenses prepared by the Accounting Assistant;
- Assist with credit checks for new customers;
- Assist with weekly cash projection (i.e. determining payments to vendors);
- Update and maintain monthly reconciliation and tracking reports;
- Review and post weekly employee timesheets;
- Prepare periodic state sales and use tax returns;
- Prepare monthly GST/HST, QST, and provincial sales tax returns;
- Monitor customer accounts and follow up on payments.
- Provide month-end support to Controller, including, but not limited to reconciling balance sheet and revenue accounts, analyzing margins and variances, and preparing adjusting entries;
- Provide audit support as required;
- Provide training, support and advice to Accounting Assistant and Order Administrator as required;
- Perform ad hoc projects as required, including, but not limited to, process improvements, dashboard and report creation, and procedural documentation; and
- Back-up for Accounting Assistant.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
- Excellent analytical, Excel and problem-solving skills;
- Strong financial management skills with a sound knowledge of accounting practices and principles; knowledge of sales tax regulations would be beneficial;
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills;
- Effective time management skills to meet deadlines and self-motivated;
- Be able to work in a team and independently;
- Ability to multi-task, bring fresh ideas, strategies and tools to the table to maximize the teams performance;
- Solid experience and knowledge of Microsoft Suite and NetSuite or similar programs; and
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required; skills in French or other languages are desirable.
Job Requirements/Experience
- Bachelors Degree or Certificate/Diploma in Business or related discipline;
- Must be enrolled in CPA PEP; and
- 3 to 5 years accounting experience.
Work location
- This position is primarily remote, offering the flexibility to work from home most of the time. However, it is a hybrid role, and you will occasionally be expected to work and/or attend in-person meetings at our Ottawa office and/or other designated locations as required.
