Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all activities within the electrical engineering discipline for the project.
- Perform detailed design, sizing, and calculations, and verify/check designs completed by others.
- Ensure effective coordination with other disciplines across all project phases.
- Review, check, and approve all engineering deliverables produced by the discipline team.
- Prepare key electrical documentation including single line diagrams, wiring schematics, datasheets, vendor squad checks, procurement documentation, and reports related to electrical system studies (e.g., short circuit calculations, time-current coordination, load flow, motor starting, and harmonic analysis using SKM and ETAP software).
- Contribute electrical input to the Design Basis Memorandum (DBM), Project Execution Plan (PEP), and detailed scopes of work.
- Lead the development of electrical designs for projects and proposals.
- Establish detailed engineering design criteria.
- Analyze vendor and subcontractor designs for compliance and technical accuracy.
- Review the work of others to ensure design integrity and consistency throughout the project.
- Take a lead role in the preparation of electrical Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and man-hour estimates.
- Prepare engineering man-hour estimates and contribute to overall project scheduling.
- Prepare and review electrical single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Develop and evaluate electrical equipment and construction specifications.
- Provide engineering support for procurement activities, including MRQ/MRP development, technical bid evaluations, and vendor drawing reviews.
- Support the development of Construction Work Packages (CWPs), including project descriptions, construction specifications, IFC drawings, and material lists.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including field engineering, inspections, and specialized studies.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in high, medium, and low voltage power generation (using single or combined-cycle turbine generators) and distribution design.
- Strong knowledge of protective relaying, generator control systems, and electrical equipment sizing and specifications.
- Experienced in electrical safety regulations and code compliance requirements.
- Ability to effectively coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- P. Eng. and Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years in oil and gas or power generation experience and distribution.
- Thorough knowledge of applications, electrical codes and standards (i.e. NEC, CSA, IEEE, API).
