Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and
ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records across the company. This role
includes managing accounts payable and receivable, performing month-end and year-end
closings, preparing financial statements, and supporting budgeting and audit processes. The
Senior Accountant will collaborate with various internal departments to maintain financial
controls and provide timely, reliable financial reporting. This is a hands-on position suited
for a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills and experience in a multi-
entity environment, ideally within the real estate development or construction sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting & Financial Oversight:
• Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accurate recording of
transactions.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and perform month-end and year-end close
processes.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial
statements.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Lead the development and maintenance of budgets for corporate and project-
related entities.
• Analyze actuals versus budget and provide detailed variance analyses and forecasts.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure financial alignment with strategic
objectives.
Financial Reporting:
• Produce timely and accurate internal and external financial reports.
• Consolidate financial results and provide insights into business performance.
• Prepare reports for senior management and assist in strategic financial planning.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
• Oversee AP and AR functions to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Manage cash flow and working capital to optimize company financials.
• Supervise invoice processing, payment cycles, and receivables tracking.
Payroll & Compliance:
• Review and approve payroll, including wages, taxes, and deductions.
• Ensure payroll compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
Audit & Tax:
• Prepare supporting documentation and coordinate with external auditors and tax
advisors.
• Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and internal control standards.
System & Process Improvement:
• Lead the implementation and optimization of accounting systems, including Jonas
and ADP.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
• Maintain documentation for accounting procedures and policies.
Team Collaboration & Support:
• Serve as a financial advisor to project managers and senior leadership.
• Support corporate development activities, including due diligence and financial
modeling.
• Provide mentorship to junior accounting staff
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation or in progress preferred.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or
construction.
• Minimum 1 year of experience with Jonas Construction Software is mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and construction accounting practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools; Jonas and ERP systems
expertise preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate financial information clearly.
