We increase awareness and understanding of mental health, mental illness, recovery, and suicide prevention through education. We support the resilience and recovery of people in distress including those affected by mental illness or suicide by providing crisis intervention; safe, long-term and affordable housing; peer support; suicide grief and family support; information and referral support; and providing opportunities to improve your wellness.
Job Summary
The Prosper Place Peer Leaders work collaboratively with the peer members to support the move towards a more peer run community at Prosper Place. Peer Leaders will lead by example and model the way by offering training to peer members, event and activity planning and organizing, and day to day operations.
Peer Leaders will report to the Acting Manager of Prosper Place. These positions are for a three-month time frame with the possibility of extension. The probationary period is three months.
Peer Leaders will work for three hours per day, five days per week, Monday through Friday. There will be a morning shift 9:30 AM 12:30 PM and an afternoon shift 12:30 PM 3:30 PM. The rate of pay is $25.38 per hour.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer Peer Members
- Maintain the volunteer schedule for Canteen, Reception, Washing Dishes, and Tours.
- Act as back up for volunteer positions.
- Give out and track volunteer Lunch Coupons.
- Provide training to peer members for Canteen, Reception, Washing Dishes, and Tours.
Events and Activities
- Work with the Acting Manager and Peer Directors Board on planning and organizing events and activities.
Peer Member of the Month
- Put Peer Member of the Month article and photo in the Newsletter.
- Print the announcement poster.
- Offer the peer member a certificate and free Lunch Coupon.
Ordering and Tracking Supplies
- Keep track of supplies and order when needed from: Instacart, Uline, Staples, Skip the Depot, Van Houtte.
- Receive orders and put supplies away.
Data Collection
- Make sure attendance sheets are filled out for all activities and events.
- Ensure evaluations are completed following the Annual Evaluation Schedule.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications / Experience

- Must be peer members at Prosper Place.
- Have lived experience of a mental health challenge, mental illness, or addictions concern.
- Leadership or supervision experience.
