Overview
Velatron Technologies, an industry leader for more than 80 years, specializes in designing and manufacturing custom transformers, inductors, coils, and related assemblies. We're proud to have been named the 2024 Top Power Electronics Solutions Provider, and we uphold the highest standards with ISO9001, AS9100D, and Controlled Goods certifications.

We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Tester to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing transformers and inductors using both automated and benchtop electrical test equipment, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and production targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical testing using automated systems and benchtop equipment such as precision digital multimeters with 4-wire resistance measurement, LCR meters, and hi-pot testers.
  • Follow detailed test procedures outlined in internal testing documentation and traveler forms.
  • Visually inspect products and test setups to verify compliance with standards.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting or assist in troubleshooting transformer and inductor failures.
  • Follow and execute electrical isolation and safe work procedures at all times.
  • Prepare products for testing by making proper electrical connections and ensuring equipment is functioning correctly.
  • Separate non-conforming units and complete required quality and production forms for traceability.
  • Perform testing tasks efficiently within defined takt times to meet delivery schedules in a fast-paced environment.

Skills & Competency Requirements

Required Skills

  • Fundamental Electrical Knowledge
Solid understanding of transformer and inductor principles, including:
    • Turns ratio and how it affects primary and secondary voltage/current
    • Faradays Law how voltage relates to the number of turns
    • AC and DC principles, including their applications in transformer and inductor testing, resistance measurement, and hi-pot insulation testing.
  • Operation of Electrical Test Equipment
Proficient in the use of benchtop test instruments such as:
    • Precision Digital Multimeters with 4-wire resistance measurement
    • LCR meters
    • Hi-pot/insulation testers
  • Test Execution and Process Adherence
Ability to follow standardized testing procedures, connect test fixtures safely, and perform tests consistently within specified takt times.
  • Attention to Detail
Strong visual inspection skills to identify workmanship or electrical defects. Able to complete test documentation accurately.
  • Troubleshooting Support
Capable of assisting in root-cause identification and retesting of units that fail electrical testing.
  • Safety Awareness
Knowledge of electrical isolation procedures and commitment to maintaining a safe testing environment.

Preferred/Asset Skills

  • Advanced Instrument Knowledge
Experience with performing LCR meter open/short compensation and calibration procedures.
  • Kelvin Measurement Proficiency
Understanding and application of 4-wire (Kelvin) resistance measurements for low-ohm accuracy.
  • Mechanical Measurement
Competency using digital calipers to verify mechanical tolerances.
  • Electrical Schematics Interpretation
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, including symbol identification for transformers and inductors.
  • Material Properties Awareness
Knowledge that resistance decreases with increased wire thickness (lower AWG gauge), and its relevance to transformer design and testing.
  • Inductance Design Relationships
Understanding of how inductance is influenced by the number of turns, core material, and geometry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology (minimum 3-year program) or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience using precision 4-wire DMMs and LCR meter
  • Working knowledge of transformer/inductor operation principles
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with urgency and precision under time constraints while maintaining test accuracy and documentation quality.
