What You'll Do
- Prepare Accurate Estimates
- Review incoming service requests, work orders and project specifications
- Conduct site visits to assess scope, existing conditions and material take-offs
- Analyze blueprints, drawings and manufacturer data for repair, retrofit or new-build work
- Develop Detailed Proposals
- Calculate labour, material and equipment costs
- Factor in subcontractor pricing, permit fees and contingency allowances
- Compile clear, professional quotation packages, including terms and conditions
- Collaborate with Stakeholders
- Liaise with project managers, service technicians and suppliers to validate assumptions
- Present estimates and scope options to clients, answer follow-up questions and revise proposals as needed
- Support the sales team by providing technical insights during client meetings
- Maintain and Improve Estimating Tools
- Keep cost databases up to date with current labour rates, material pricing and vendor discounts
- Recommend process enhancements to streamline estimating workflows and improve accuracy
- Track historical bid results and analyze variance reports to inform future bids
- Journeyman or Red Seal Plumbing Certification, or equivalent trade-school plumbing diploma
- Any additional mechanical or HVAC training is a plus
- Bachelor's or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (asset)
- 3 – 5 years as a Service Plumbing Estimator or similar role
- Proven track record estimating service, repair, preventive maintenance and emergency plumbing work
- In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, components and materials
- Familiarity with local plumbing codes, safety regulations and industry standards
- Proficient in industry-leading estimating software (e.g. PlanSwift, HCSS, Trimble Accubid)
- Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Analytical Thinking: Assess requirements quickly to deliver competitive, profitable estimates
- Communication: Write and present proposals clearly; build trust with clients and internal teams
- Attention to Detail: Ensure precise scope definition, material take-offs and cost calculations
- Collaboration: Work seamlessly with service managers, field technicians and procurement
