Overview:
Our client—a leading private organization providing exclusive hospitality and lifestyle services—is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee financial operations and internal controls across a multi-departmental environment. This is a strategic, leadership-level role with responsibility for financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and the direct supervision of both accounting and finance support staff.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical accounting expertise, people leadership, and an analytical mindset—contributing to both day-to-day operational efficiency and long-term financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the organization's finance function, including direct oversight of accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable teams (2 direct, 8 indirect reports).

  • Maintain high standards for internal controls and continuously improve financial processes, with an emphasis on automation and data integrity.

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of internal and external financial statements in accordance with ASPE.

  • Lead annual budget planning and quarterly forecasting processes; analyze variances and present insights to senior leadership.

  • Coordinate annual financial, operational, and pension audits; liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies as required.

  • Maintain compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations including tax and pension reporting.

  • Manage cash flow and banking relationships; ensure surplus funds are appropriately invested and debt obligations are minimized.

  • Oversee capital expenditure planning and maintain a long-term capital forecast.

  • Implement reporting tools and financial KPIs to hold operational teams accountable to their budgets.

  • Mentor and train accounting staff; support development plans and performance management.

  • Provide financial reports and updates to executive leadership, committees, and the board.

  • Recommend enhancements to current accounting systems, procedures, and reporting capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation is required, along with a strong understanding of ASPE.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

  • Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience in finance or accounting, preferably in a multi-faceted, customer-focused operation.

  • Strong technical ability with advanced Microsoft 365 skills; SQL proficiency is an asset.

  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and compliance regulations at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team in a collaborative, results-driven environment.

  • Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset.
