Position Summary
The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Senior Finance Coordinator to join the Finance team.
The Senior Finance Coordinator will be responsible for analysis by reviewing assigned accounts, monitoring and analyzing information and transactions; report and accounting entry preparation and analysis by gathering and verifying information from various sources and maintaining relevant supporting documentation, analyze and interpret data/reports and identification of trends, and making recommendations; act as liaison with both internal and external clients to obtain information, respond to requests for information or explanation of financial and/or statistical data or finance policies, processes and procedures. The Senior Finance Coordinator is also responsible for transaction processing, maintenance, and compliance of certain key functions as well as assist in training and providing technical assistance as needed.
This position is temporary, full-time to cover a Maternity Leave until September 2026.
Position Responsibilities
- Reconciles all bank accounts (CAD, USD, PayPal, Moneris, etc.) to the general ledger
- Analyzes and balances information and transactions to verify their accuracy, reasonability and completeness
- Identifies discrepancies and investigates to obtain explanations, missing information or corrections
- Prepares appropriate journals entries as required
- Notifies Manager, or other appropriate position, of unresolved discrepancies and provides recommendations for resolution
- Be a part of the team that supports and maintains the online events management system, ensuring that funds are reconciled regularly and correctly credited to the general ledger
- Liaises with internal staff and customers to efficiently deal with queries from the online events management system
- Prepares journal entries and adjustments to process payroll related entries and to ensure statements and reports are accurate
- Acts as liaison between UHN (payroll provider) and OICR
- Provides in depth explanations for significant variances between payroll reports received from UHN and the general ledger
- Processes request for honorarium payments and ensure that detailed information is obtained for the determination and deduction of tax
- Reconciles the HST account, ensuring that returns are filed with CRA on time and handles any other CRA related business
- Reconciles all payroll related accounts and ensure that payments are made in a timely manner
- Processes all Accounts Receivable transactions including, cheque deposits and invoicing
- Liaises with customers to resolve issues of non-payment and send out reminders as necessary
- Liaises with internal staff and external organizations in order to deal efficiently with queries and resolve problems
- Prepares, maintains and processes all prepaid transactions
- Analyzes transactions for HST exposure, calculates HST self-assessment and prepares required journal entries
- Performs Accounts Receivable monthly close
- Prepares monthly reconciliations and ensures that these are signed off on time
- Assist in managing organization expense management system
- Reconcile monthly transactions of procurement credit cards to process payment on time
- Participates in the year-end financial statement reporting and audit process to deliver working papers and supporting documents to the external auditors
Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelors degree in business administration or recognized equivalent
- Working towards completion of a professional accounting program, CGA or CMA, at least the third (3rd) year level
- Demonstrated experience with analyzing and interpreting complex financial data
- Skilled in preparing complex, detailed reports
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Working knowledge of computer application accounting systems and software applications in a Microsoft Office environment (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to client service and satisfaction
