We're transforming small multi-unit residential construction in Nova Scotia through standardization, speed, and quality. We need a quality assurance specialist to help us build our reputation for excellence.
The OpportunityWe're looking for an experienced construction inspector to develop and implement our quality assurance program. You'll work directly with our leadership to create standards, train our teams, and ensure every project exceeds expectations.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Development :
- Review our standard designs and identify critical quality points
- Develop visual quality standards library (good vs. bad examples)
- Create inspection checklists for each construction phase
- Establish remediation protocols for common issues
- Train PMs and trades on quality expectations
Ongoing Inspections:
- Conduct 4 milestone inspections per project:
- Post-foundation (waterproofing verification)
- Pre-insulation (MEP and envelope review)
- Pre-drywall (final hidden work check)
- Pre-occupancy (systems and finishes)
- Provide same-day verbal feedback and 48-hour written reports
- Work collaboratively with trades to fix issues immediately
- Verify corrections before work proceeds
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead monthly quality review meetings
- Track patterns across projects
- Update standards based on learnings
- Develop training materials from real examples
- Interface with municipal inspectors to prevent issues
Background (one or more):
- Current/former municipal building inspector in Nova Scotia
- P.Eng. with construction administration experience
- Certified construction inspector (CAHPI, InterNACHI, or similar)
- 10+ years in construction quality control
Essential Qualities:
- Deep knowledge of Nova Scotia Building Code
- Experience with multi-unit residential construction
- Teaching mindset - educates rather than criticizes
- Practical problem-solver who suggests solutions
- Available on 48-hour notice for inspections
- Comfortable with photo documentation and basic reporting
