At the YMCA of Northern Alberta, we're looking for Day Camp Counsellors who are ready to inspire, lead, and create unforgettable experiences for children aged 4-17. As a Counsellor, you will be a key part of our summer programs, helping to foster a safe, exciting, and supportive environment for our campers.
This is a part-time contract position from June 12, 2025 to August 22, 2025.
Hourly Rate: $16.55
Schedule: This position requires flexible availability between 7:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Specific hours may vary
Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead day camp programs, including schedules and activities related to the camp theme, i.e. basketball, soccer, science, art, etc.
- Engage with campers in a positive and encouraging manner, actively building relationships with campers and parents to support the YMCA's mission.
- Actively supervise campers and volunteers; manage camper behavior in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Work with the leadership team in developing and delivering behavior support plans for campers.
- Maintain attendance and program records, adhere to sign-in, sign-out procedures and headcount protocol.
- Lead by example and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision and values of the YMCA
- Attend all Day Camp training and other YMCA training sessions
Qualifications:
- High-school Diploma or in pursuit of post-secondary education in a field connected to children and youth is an asset. (Recreation, Child Studies, Education, Physical Education, etc.)
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Experience working with children and youth in a camp environment is preferred
- Customer service experience is an asset
- Must have Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C (the Y will provide support in registration $60 after YMCA Discount)
- Police Information Check to be provided in advance of your first day of work. If under 18, you will sign a declaration (If over 18, you will need to provide a Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the YMCA of Northern Alberta).
