Role Overview:
As the Building Envelope Specialist, you will be the principal representative in our envelope department, providing technical expertise on a range of projects. Your responsibilities will include pricing, executing, closing projects, and training team members. You will conduct investigations, prepare proposals, develop design packages, & lead building envelope projects. Your decision-making will shape project scope, investigation plans, and specifications, guided by client feedback and relevant data. Frequent travel to client sites will be an essential part of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiate and maintain communication with clients to showcase the advantages of our services, discussing technical aspects, project costs, and timelines. Resolve complex client issues and provide technical assistance regarding product inspections and follow-up services.
- Conduct initial assessments, prepare reports, and make recommendations, including cost estimates for construction projects.
- Create design drawings and comprehensive specifications in compliance with the Ontario Building Code and industry standards, including front-end documents and CCDC-2 contracts.
- Offer tendering services to ensure a fair and transparent bidding process for clients.
- Attend Condo Board meetings as needed, including after-hours visits.
- Manage contract administration during the construction phase of projects.
- Oversee complex project activities, ensuring smooth initiation, maintenance, completion, and closure of assignments. Act as the reviewer of record when assigned.
- Communicate project status and outcomes to clients through regular updates and detailed reports.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance on special projects that present complex challenges.
- Develop project programs, ensuring alignment with requirements and facilitating communication about any changes in project scope.
- Address customer inquiries, technical issues, and complaints, ensuring quality and adherence to industry standards.
Required Experience:
- Proven management and design experience in building envelope repair or replacement projects, including roofing, cladding, sealants, waterproofing, curtain walls, and windows.
- Expertise in building envelope and water leakage investigations, Building Condition Assessments (BCAs), envelope design projects (sealant, roofing, windows, curtain wall glazing, flashing, parking deck waterproofing, etc.), Reserve Fund Studies, thermal analysis, energy modelling, and Tarion Performance Audits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Science, or Engineering Technology.
- 4 to 8 years of experience in delivering complex building envelope projects.
- P. Eng. designation is an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is an asset.
- Strong understanding of the Ontario Building Code, Toronto Building Code Bylaws, and fundamental building envelope principles.
- Awareness of local market trends and opportunities.
- Proven ability to cultivate relationships and develop networks within the industry.
- Extensive knowledge of construction industry practices.
- Strong project management skills, particularly in complex or novel projects.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Strong time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Swing stage training and experience.
- LEED Certification from the Canada Green Building Council is preferred.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel efficiently throughout the GTA are advantageous.
