We're currently seeking a skilled Emergency Vehicle Technician Communications to help support and enhance the technology and electrical systems that keep our ambulances mission-ready.

Position Overview

As an Emergency Vehicle Technician Communications, youll be responsible for the installation, integration, testing, and maintenance of communication and electronic systems in our emergency response fleet. This hands-on role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong sense of teamwork and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Integration

  • Install and integrate 12V communication and electronic systems including GPS units, modems, power inverters, Motorola and BK radios, light bars, and Dell rugged laptops.
  • Ensure all equipment meets Alberta Health Services (AHS) specifications.
  • Install and repair communication equipment.

Wiring & Mounting

  • Execute clean, professional wiring jobs with secure and discreet cable routing.
  • Design and fabricate custom mounting solutions based on vehicle layout.

Testing & Maintenance

  • Test and verify the functionality of all installed components.
  • Diagnose and repair communication and electronic systems as needed.
  • Learn and perform repair work specific to the ambulance compartment.
  • Maintain and repair ambulance conversion systems.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate service records and installation documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with internal standards and safety regulations.

Collaboration & Travel

  • Work collaboratively with Fleet Services staff and report to the Executive Director of Fleet Services.
  • Perform duties independently with minimal supervision and contribute effectively to a team environment.
  • Travel to rural stations across Alberta as needed (company vehicle and expenses provided).

Health & Safety

  • Actively participate in workplace health and safety activities.
  • Advocate for and support policies related to risk identification, assessment, and control.
  • Promote a safe work environment by identifying and reporting risks, incidents, injuries, and property damage.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately and consistently when required.

Other

  • Perform additional shop duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a radio installer.
  • Proven experience with 12V electrical systems, GPS/communication equipment, power inverters, and modems.
  • Familiarity with products from Dell, Whelen, Motorola, and BK Radio.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics.
  • Ability to understand vehicle electronic systems.
  • Mechanical experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and repair communication systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and pride in clean, professional workmanship.
  • Experience working in emergency vehicle or fleet environments is an asset.

Certifications

  • No formal certification required for accessory installs on commercial vehicles in Alberta.
  • MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) or related technical training is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Work based in north west Edmonton, AB (relocating to Acheson in the near future).
  • Indoor work environment in a fully equipped shop or ambulance station.
  • Occasional travel to regional ambulance stations across Alberta (vehicle and expenses provided).
