Position Summary

The Chief Culture and Communication Officer (CCCO) at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is a strategic leader dedicated to advancing our mission through excellence in people and culture, internal communications, marketing and brand storytelling. A primary area of focus will be the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy that positions the YMCA to ensure its brand and messaging proactively and consistently reflect its full range of activities and its impact in the community.

The CCCO will champion organizational values, foster a diverse and inclusive culture, and ensure the alignment of people strategies with the Ys strategic priorities, helping us serve individuals and families across our communities with integrity, compassion, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

People and Culture Leadership

  • Lead people-centered strategies that support a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, learning and development, employee engagement, and succession planning.
  • Champion Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, policies, and standards of the YMCA.
  • Enhance staff wellbeing, safety, and workplace culture through strategic programs and accountability.
  • Develop and champion an intentional, values-aligned culture strategy that enhances belonging, recognition, and safety across the organization.

Internal Communications

  • Foster transparency, trust, and alignment through clear internal communication strategies.
  • Lead employee communication platforms, staff town halls, and organizational messaging.
  • Provide strategic counsel to leadership on messaging and organizational change.

External Communications and Brand Strategy

  • Increase the YMCAs visibility and profile, working closely with the President & CEO to maximize opportunities for communicating the YMCA message. Engage diverse communities from Sussex to St. Stephen.
  • Partner with Fund Development to shape a unified, mission-aligned brand voice and support communication on key fundraising events.
  • Manage the marketing department to meet the needs of the operations teams and aligns with budget.
  • Ensure consistency of tone, messaging, and branding across digital, media, and print channels.
  • Leverage data-driven insights and digital tools to guide and optimize marketing and communications strategies. Emphasize performance measurement, audience engagement, and continuous improvement across all platforms.
  • Serve as lead brand storyteller, ensuring the YMCAs identity and impact are authentically conveyed across all touchpointsfrom donor campaigns to digital strategy to media engagement.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Executive Team.
  • Build strong relationships with leaders across departments to align HR and communications strategies with program delivery.
  • Lead two core functions: People & Culture and Marketing & Communications, with direct reports and cross-functional collaboration with Fund Development and Operations teams.
  • Manage budgets and spend accordingly.
  • Establish KPIs for internal culture health and external communications reach/impact. Leverage engagement surveys, media analytics, and qualitative feedback to refine approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Communications, Organizational Leadership, or a related field (Masters preferred). Equivalent experience in strategic leadership, brand development, and internal culture management will be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in HR and/or Communications, organizational engagement, with a proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and impact. 3-5 years at a senior leadership level.
  • Experience in the nonprofit, community-based, or membership organization sector preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including public speaking and presentations and storytelling. High emotional intelligence (i.e., self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, social skills).
  • Advanced knowledge of business computer skills, including Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with digital optimization strategies such as Google Analytics, Search Engine Optimization, and Google AdWords.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, e.g., Salesforce.
  • Participation in YMCA Canada Leadership/Management Development programs and/or similar programs
  • Commitment to the YMCAs mission, values, and community impact.
