As Team Lead for the DevOps Team, you will have the opportunity to shape the devops environment and developer experience for a team of 50 software developers. You'll be responsible for leading a team of six individuals who are responsible for our build and test processes, our cloud environment, and the overall developer experience.
As the successful candidate for this role, you have demonstrated prior success in leading transformation of devops practices in a growing startup, empowering the software development team and measurably increasing their effectiveness and happiness.
In this role, you'll split your time between hands-on technical contribution and people leadership, working in an autonomous environment where you'll solve interesting technical challenges while growing and mentoring a high-performing team.
Successful candidates will be located in Vancouver, BC. This role follows a hybrid schedule. We require team members to be in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with the option to work remotely on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our office is located in downtown Vancouver, and we believe this balance fosters strong collaboration while supporting flexibility.
About this role ✨In this role, you will:
- Own the developer experience at Spare, focused on creating an environment that empowers developers to deliver effectively with minimal toil and disruption
- Manage Spare's SRE processes, and own the training program to onboard new developers into our SRE rotation
- Build and manage an effective team, focusing on mentorship, growth, and maintaining a high bar for technical excellence
- Lead quarterly planning and OKR definition while managing sprint cycles to deliver high-impact features and improvements
- Set and execute technical direction for several key components of our platform, ensuring architectural decisions align with business goals and customer needs
- Contribute as a senior-level individual contributor, writing high-quality code while balancing technical leadership responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and other Team Leads to define and execute on product strategy
- Participate in customer hackathons and help foster our developer ecosystem through strategic technical partnerships
About you ✨You have....
- 8+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years of technical leadership leading a DevOps team
- 3+ years of strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and modern CI/CD tooling
- Demonstrated effectiveness in taking a metrics-driven approach to devops tools and processes, focused on developer productivity, platform reliability, and cost efficiency
- Solid experience with Node.js, Typescript, React
- Proven track record of leading technical teams and driving successful project delivery
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Excellence in technical communication and stakeholder management
