THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL TIME ROLE - 8 WEEKS
Position Overview
Reporting to the Data and Analytics Manager, the Summer Student Data Analyst will play a supportive role in advancing the Statistical Initiative of the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). You will learn and assist with the development, analysis, and maintenance of databases focusing on datasets relating to First Nations economic and fiscal issues.
Accountabilities
- Learn and assist in the development, construction, testing, and maintenance of the internal database and data analysis processes;
- Work collaboratively with the data and analytics team on data initiatives, ensuring consistency and integrity in data management across projects;
- Learn and support the processes for data modeling, mining, and production;
- Learn and contribute to improving data reliability, efficiency, and quality;
- Learn various analytical tools, languages, and GenAI tools to integrate datasets and advance new insights;
- Learn and participate in the development and implementation of data standards and common data elements as required;
- Help maintain the security and privacy of the database, adhering to relevant regulations and standards;
- Provide regular updates on the status of projects, including any challenges encountered.
The Summer Student Data Analyst will also be involved in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned by the Data and Analytics Manager.
Qualifications
- Interest in data analysis, software development, or a similar role;
- Basic understanding of relational databases and data analysis methodologies;
- Strong organizational and analytical skills;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate across other internal teams;
- An understanding, awareness, and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history;
- Basic understanding of relational databases and data analysis methodologies an asset;
- Problem-solving mindset with an emphasis on understanding and interpreting data an asset;
- Must be fluent in English (spoken and written); Fluency in French is an asset.
- Must be aged 15 30 years to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs program
Work Conditions
- This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario. Hybrid work may be considered.
