ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The IT Operations, Lead provides technical leadership and oversight for the planning, development, and delivery of centralized IT services. This role supports both current operations and new technology initiatives aligned with Ontario Northland's strategic goals. The position ensures enterprise projects are executed efficiently, meeting quality, budget, and timeline expectations. It also involves identifying technical risks, resolving complex issues, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the IT Operations staff
  • Review existing and new projects to determine the resource assignment requirements and provide reports on resource allocation to the IT Operations Manager
  • Provide Tier3 level support for any hardware or software related incidents and projects
  • Collaborate with colleagues and staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
  • Assist with directing the IT Operations team in all aspects of the hardware operations life cycle, including design, configuration, migration, and testing to deliver high-quality IT services
  • Create, support, and test the development of client and server operating system builds
  • Identify and implement efficiencies across the enterprise using technology to improve productivity and increase value.
  • Assist with coordinating system designs and drafting of new policies, upgrades, updates, documentation, and drawings.
  • Set and maintain documentation standards for the team.
  • Plan and document comprehensive technical specifications for system design, ensuring a clear roadmap for implementation
  • Ensure new Cloud applications integrate with our systems and determine requirements and engineer solutions required
  • Liaise and develop strong working relationships with other team members, including project management, business analysis, and other ITS Departments to move requirements toward execution
  • Serve as a key facilitator at various meetings such as requirements kick-offs, workshops, and other meetings as required
  • Provide updates and reports to the ITS team and IT Operations Manager
  • Report on ITS related KPI and metrics to the IT Operations Manager
  • Be a subject matter expert on IT trends, techniques, and opportunities that can benefit Ontario Northland
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering their professional growth, and encouraging the adoption of industry best practices
  • Use effective written and verbal communication skills to explain complex technical situations to non-technical audiences
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an IT Operations role that provides IT support, Service Desk functions, IT Hardware and Software (SANs, Virtual Environments, Microsoft On-Prem and Cloud Systems)
  • Degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Certification in Project Management or Change Management
  • ITIL and Prosci Change Management Certifications are preferred
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or equivalent certification considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft systems (SharePoint, Exchange, Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Entra ID, Azure, HyperV, MSSQL, SCCM, WSUS)
  • Strong working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, enterprise networks, and VPNs
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Knowledge of EAM/ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, Hexagon EAM, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics) and their modules, with understanding experience in configuration
  • Experience in implementation of major business systems (ERP, EAM, MRP) is an asset
  • Knowledgeable in Change Management, Business Analysis and Project Management methodologies (ADKAR, Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Risk Management, etc.) and supporting tools
  • Proficiency in Linux and IBM iSeries considered an asset
  • Experience in planning and executing projects using project management techniques, ITIL/ITSM processes
  • Ability to design, build, and configure enterprise IT hardware and systems to meet business and application requirements, leveraging technical expertise and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on listening, coaching, decision making, mentoring, collaborating, and team building
  • Bilingualism an asset
  • Valid Driver's license as some travel is required
