We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering Team in Waterloo, Ontario

VueReal is pioneering next-generation optoelectronic and micro semiconductor devices, including cutting-edge Micro-LED technologies that are transforming industries like augmented reality and automotive displays. We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer with strong technical expertise and leadership capabilities to join our Engineering Team in Waterloo, Ontario.

Job Purpose:

You will be instrumental in advancing our micro semiconductor technologies by designing, improving, and optimizing mechanical systems and custom-built platforms for product development, precision optical testing and manufacturing processes. This role is designed for individuals ready for a technical leadership role, guiding junior engineers and influencing multidisciplinary projects.

YOURDay-to-day Activities

• Lead the design, development, and refinement of custom mechanical systems and test platforms.
• Prepare and execute test plans, integrating mechanical systems with optical and electrical components.
• Analyze mechanical and optical data, preparing detailed technical reports for internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Develop and implement metrology protocols and mechanical designs for new product development initiatives.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and continuously improve mechanical components of precision measurement and manufacturing systems.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate across optical, hardware/electrical, materials, and software teams to develop innovative solutions.
• Take initiative in identifying areas for mechanical design improvements, proposing and leading implementation projects.

The TOOLS YOU need to do the job

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Masters degree favorable but not essential.
• Roughly 10 years of relevant industry experience, ideally within the semiconductor, optoelectronics, or display sectors.
• Extensive hands-on experience with mechanical system design, prototyping, and manufacturing (including tools like SolidWorks, PDM).
• Strong understanding of material properties, precision mechanics, and system integration.
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical issues in complex systems.
• Familiarity with project management and leading small project teams.
• Experience coding for data acquisition or automation (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) is an asset.
• Knowledge of display technology, optical systems, or microfabrication is preferred.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
