Position Summary

The Compensation Specialist works closely with the HR Manager and COO to ensure:

  • Accurate and timely processing of compensation and payroll data
  • Compliance with compensation-related regulations
  • Effective support for the development of compensation strategies
  • Prompt responses to employee payroll and benefits inquiries
  • Administrative assistance for performance reviews and salary adjustments

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and enter payroll transactions in accordance with payroll deadlines.
  • Balance payroll entries and assist in audit preparations.
  • Recommend and implement best practices for payroll procedures.
  • Maintain and update employee records (attendance, leave, overtime).
  • Produce payroll reports, submit pension contributions, resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to pay-related inquiries and manage letters, deductions, and taxable benefits.
  • Manage group benefit enrollments, terminations, and dependent processes.
  • Oversee extended leaves and return-to-work plans.
  • Support year-end payroll reconciliation, including T4s and T2200s.
  • Administer staff benefit plans including pension, RRSP, and Work Safe BC.
  • Assist with onboarding and background checks.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Payroll, HR, Business, or related field
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or equivalent certification (asset)
  • 1–2 years of full-cycle Canadian payroll experience
  • Experience with Dayforce (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll and benefits requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and payroll systems
  • High integrity and professionalism when handling confidential data
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment

Work Environment

  • Hybrid workplace, enabling both office time and work from home.
  • Attend the Toronto work office as needed in accordance with company policy.
