The City of Penticton is looking to fill position of Works Maintenance II in our Utilities team. The City of Penticton Utilities Division keeps our community safe by providing clean, safe, drinking water, a reliable sanitary sewer system and storm water drainage to help prevent flooding. The Division consists of the Water Treatment Plant, Utilities Department and Advanced Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The Works Maintenance II position reports to the Utilities Supervisor and provides skilled labor assistance as required to all Utilities Department crews and other internal City Departments depending on delegated duties.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilities Department duties including, assisting all work crews, water service inspection program, Uni-directional water main flushing program, Valve maintenance program, confined space entries, sewer and storm main flushing, and all other general utilities tasks as required.
- Operates equipment including but not limited to: pickup truck, aerial bucket truck, mobile crane truck, portable generator, cut saw, jackhammer, chainsaw, weed-eater, backpack blower, tampers, plate compactor, compressor, and other various small hand tools.
Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
- Ability to read, understand and interpret verbal and written instructions.
- Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively plan and prioritize assigned tasks and duties.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal with people in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to work co-operatively or independently, problem solve and exercise sound judgement.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Education, Training & Experience:
- Completion of Secondary School or equivalent.
- Valid B.C. Driver's License - Minimum of Class 5 (air brake endorsement preferred).
- Valid Traffic Control Person Certification.
- Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Applicator or Assistant Applicator Certificates considered an asset.
- Valid Forklift Certification considered an asset.
- Safety and related training certificates including WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, Fall Arrest, are all preferred.
