Position Scope
Reporting to the Director, Engineering, the Mechanical Technologist will work on mechanical engineering documents and additional objectives as defined by your management chain. Under the guidance of a Professional Engineer, you will support the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of projects at Carbon Engineering's Innovation Center to modify existing equipment or install new equipment. You must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment where you work independently or with a team of engineers towards multiple deadlines. Working from the office, inside the operating facility, and traveling to engage with vendors, partners, and oversee their work is expected.
This position is a full-time, 40hrs/week position. This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule to offer a flexible work schedule.
This role is based in Squamish, BC.
Health Safety and Environment
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
- Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
- Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
- Actively participate in Process Hazard Analysis studies and Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Production Engineers at the demonstration plant to troubleshoot equipment, develop modifications, and engineer those modifications.
- Support projects through to completion by developing and reviewing mechanical engineering deliverables such as Equipment Specs/Datasheets, Isometrics, Arrangement drawings, Vendor Bid comparisons.
- Support the commissioning of projects you helped design by conducting site reviews and inspections.
- Interface with the in-house Operations and Technology Development teams, external engineering partners, and vendors/fabricators.
- Support engineering team in maintaining an accurate and up-to-date repository of facility documentation.
- Interest in development of new technologies and products.
- Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Engineering Team; a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
Education and Experience
Education:
- Mechanical Technologists diploma or related similar.
Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in chemical plant projects, or chemical plant operation. Experience from pulp and paper, water treatment, oil and gas or similar industrial environments is desired.
Key Competencies
- Analytical thinking with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset.
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Experience with P&ID drafting in AutoCAD is a plus.

- Base salary for an intermediate role is $80,325 to $105,000
