Job Summary
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Senior Estimator will be responsible for leading the preparation and coordination of comprehensive project estimates and proposals. The incumbent will review project drawings, specifications, and contract requirements to accurately determine scope, assess costs, and develop competitive tenders and budgets.
The incumbent will manage the full estimating lifecycle, including the preparation of construction schedules, bid clarifications, and document control. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of estimating software and project management tools, such as Primavera, P6, MS Project, and 3D modeling software like NAVIS. This individual brings proven experience working with various contract types (lump sum, unit rate, and cost-plus). Performing detailed cost-benefit and risk analyses, maintaining accurate records, developing project charters, and overseeing execution, safety, and quality plans. Collaborates with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams to ensure alignment on scopes, deliverables, and contract terms.
The incumbent will conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of Lynco Energy Services, as well as adherence to all established Policies and Procedures.
This permanent full-time salaried position is located in Lloydminster AB and is based on forty (40) hours weekly. Given the managerial capacity, additional hours may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review project drawings, technical specifications, and requirements to determine the scope of work.
- Prepare and present tender process, budgets, estimates, and construction schedules.
- Change order estimating.
- Research and source material pricing and components from suppliers.
- Proficient using estimating and project scheduling tools, such as, Primavera, P6, MS Project and 3D Modeling (NAVIS).
- Plan all project timelines, milestones, deliverables, and micro-deliverables using the appropriate software tools and/or project management methods.
- Proven experience working with different types of contracts, including lump sum, unit rate and cost-plus.
- Create a project charter for each approved project, defining the project goals, objectives, risks, assumptions, staffing levels, roles and responsibilities, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables.
- Maintain detailed records of estimates and proposals.
- Ability to complete detailed execution, safety plans and quality plans.
- Collaborate with the project team and sub-contractors on the terms of the project contract and proposal, scope of work, and other information as required.
- Proven experience to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, and
- Other relatable duties as required.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Technical Diploma, C.E.T, Gold Seal Estimator, or PMP along with 10 or more years of related construction experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five (5) years of experience in estimating and/or project management is required.
- Fabrication shop environment, process piping and structural steel fabrication is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License, along with a 5-year clean drivers abstract is required.
- Criminal Records Check is required.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol test may be required.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
- Strong understanding contract fundamentals
- Strong understanding of HSE and OH&S requirements.
- Strong understanding of the construction management process, industry trends, and best practices in welding and piping.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a focus on accuracy and detail.
- Strong understanding of construction trades and construction techniques.
- Strong negotiation skills with suppliers and vendors.
- Proven research, analytical, planning, and organizing skills.
- High energy level, ability to multitask, establish priorities, work independently or in a team environment.
- Must be proficient will all Microsoft office suite applications.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to listen effectively, respond appropriately, and maintain mutual comfort level while relating to a diverse workforce.
Qualified status with the Mtis Nation of Alberta or fluency in Dene Cree are preferred candidate traits.
