Facility Attendant/Facility Operator I - Part Time
The Town of Tillsonburg is looking for two (2) Part Time Facility Attendant/Facility Operator I. In the Facility Attendant position, the successful incumbent would assist with the day to day operation of the facility to ensure that the facility is clean, rooms set ups are complete, user needs are met and the facility is operated in a safe manner. In the Facility Operator I position, the successful incumbent would performs the day to day building, ice and pool maintenance, general housekeeping and minor repairs to the equipment, electrical, some carpentry and painting of the Community Centre and other Town owned building

Facility Operator I - $27.76 - $32.47/hour

This position has the option to enroll in OMERS defined pension plan.

Facility Attendant Responsibilities
  • At the direction of the Chief Operator or designate, perform building maintenance tasks at any Town facility or park including internal and/or external minor carpentry, plumbing, masonry or electrical repairs, painting, or landscaping.
  • Working with the Facility Operator or designate to provide safe, clean and well run facilities
  • Assisting with ice resurfacing responsibilities by moving the hockey goals, shoveling and clearing snow and ice following ice resurfacing. Completing small ice repairs as required. Filling ice resurfacer with water and ensuring machine tires are clean for each flood.
  • Assisting with Pool operations as required.
  • Setting up rooms for meeting and socials following the set up sheets as provided by staff. Meeting hall rentals needs by adjusting the set ups as required, providing additional furniture, setting up public address equipment, checking spaces for proper cleanliness and temperature. Responding to hall user needs by responding
  • to call box requests for assistance. Checking in on rental functions periodically to ensure everything is fine and their needs are met.
  • Checking and cleaning dressing rooms and other Arena areas on a regular basis to ensure a clean appearance and user satisfaction. Reporting any areas that are damaged or any other areas of concern.
  • Ensuring proper safety and security of all users and guests by monitoring activities of facility patrons and enforcing all facility rules and codes of conduct.
  • Ensure all exterior areas of the facility are free of ice and snow and operating snow removal equipment to ensure same.
  • Following all established workplace policies and procedures as well as all provincial and federal health and safety regulations and laws.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing 50-60 pounds.
  • All other duties as assigned by Chief Operator and/or Manager of Parks & Facilities.
Facility Operator I Responsibilities
  • Assists Facility Operator II's and certified refrigeration mechanics with ice plant repairs and equipment overhauls to gain additional training.
  • Performs day to day building, ice and pool maintenance, general housekeeping, minor repairs to equipment, electrical, some carpentry and painting of the Community Centre.
  • Opens and closes water park.
  • Operates fleet vehicles and equipment including an ice resurfacer, trucks, tractors, forklifts, ice edgers and assorted ice making and facility tools.
  • Performs daily, weekly and annual area maintenance tasks including ice maintenance, ice thickness inspections, ice installation and removal, painting, logos and custom painting for special events.
  • Whenever in the refrigeration plant, strictly adheres to technical standards and safety authority legislation, OHSA and the B-52 refrigeration code.
  • Assists in select refrigeration plant inspections and records pressures and temperatures as outlined by the Chief Operator.
  • Assists with performing regular and annual pool maintenance tasks including backwashes, water chemistry calculations and chemical addition, water balancing, equipment repairs, verification of pool heating and air distribution systems and computer controls.
  • Follows provincial pool promotion and protection act legislation governing Class A public swimming pools when maintaining pool.
  • Assists in performing repairs and equipment servicing, annual maintenance work
  • Assists with larger scale repairs and renovations as requested by the Chief Operator.
  • Assists in completing daily, weekly and annual maintenance activities including ice surfaces, pools, squash courts, fitness centre, seniors centre, etc.
  • Identifies and reports refrigeration alarms and/or pressures/temperatures beyond normal operating parameters.
  • Maintains Town property and buildings.
  • Assists with housekeeping duties including sweeping, mopping, spot cleaning, washing and disinfecting.
  • Shovels snow, salts and picks up litter to ensure a safe facility.
  • Communicates with other staff and user groups to ensure their needs are met.
  • Sets up and tears down activity areas for events.
  • Verifies work completed by part time attendants to ensure approved standards are met.
  • Liaises with the public and user groups to accommodate rentals and provide assistance.
  • Adjusts duties to accommodate changes in bookings.
  • Assists in training, mentoring and coaching of and assigns work to part time attendants on various shifts.
  • Adheres to emergency, operating procedures and safety regulations by handling and storing chemicals safely, following evacuation plan, performing first aid to level of competency attained and following other procedures and directives.
Qualifications
  • Minimum grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Class G drivers' license.
  • Certified ice technician through ORFA or equivalent an asset.
  • Certified pool operators course/designation is an asset.
  • Current certification in CPR/Standard First Aid/AED & WHMIS
  • Mechanical aptitude, basic plumbing, electrical, equipment repair, HVAC.
  • Two years related experience in municipal recreation facilities or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills for email and recreation software read only for facility rental information.
  • Good communication skills to communicate effectively and concisely to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Works well with team to develop solutions.
  • Knowledge of facilities operation and preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Smart Serve Certification is an asset.
