Position Summary:
As Stq:ya Construction undergoes an exciting organizational restructuring to strengthen our leadership team and expand into new markets, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking General Manager to lead this transformation. This role is ideal for a strategic and hands-on leader who thrives in a high-growth environment and is passionate about building Indigenous business success. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing operations, financial performance, strategic growth, and team leadership, while advancing Stq:yas reputation in the construction industry across British Columbia and beyond.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement business strategies that drive sustainable growth and market expansion.
- Operations Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations including resource planning, equipment and project management, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Financial Stewardship: Oversee budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, ensuring profitability and operational efficiency.
- Team Leadership: Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing leadership and project management team.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and client relationships.
- Project Delivery: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of construction projects, ensuring quality, safety, and timeliness.
- Community & Stakeholder Relations: Represent Stq:ya in community, government, and industry forums; maintain strong relationships with Indigenous partners and stakeholders.
- Organizational Development: Drive improvements in systems, processes, and policies that align with Stq:yas goals and values.
- Pre-Construction Leadership: Collaborate with design teams and stakeholders during the pre-construction phase to establish project budgets, timelines, and resource allocations.
- Multi-Project Oversight: Manage and coordinate multiple construction projects simultaneously, ensuring that each aligns with company standards, timelines, and budgets.
- Board Reporting: Report regularly to the Board of Directors on business performance, project updates, and strategic progress.
- Risk Management: Ensure adherence to legal, safety, and environmental standards, and mitigate operational and financial risks.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, including tax filings, audits, and other statutory requirements. Identify and manage financial risks.
- Cost Control: Work closely with project managers to monitor and control project costs, ensuring they align with budgets and contracts.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred; a Masters degree is an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully managing multi-million-dollar projects and leading organizational growth.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role overseeing comprehensive construction operations, beyond individual project management responsibilities.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and contract oversight.
- Deep understanding of construction industry trends, legislation, and operational best practices.
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communicator with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and a demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and collaboration.
