Software Developer
Our client in the cloud based software industry is looking for Junior Software Developer on a contract basis.
This is a unique opportunity for a developer to own, rebuild, and modernize a legacy desktop application still critical to business operations. You'll work closely with Product, QA, and DevOps teams to enhance and support this system while driving it toward a cloud-based future.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities Include:
Work as part of high-performing teams that develop, support, and improve manufacturing-related software application systems.
Own and maintain a legacy Java-based desktop application with minimal guidance.
Rebuild and modernize the application by locating, understanding, and improving legacy source code.
Investigate and resolve production issues quickly and independently.
Write SQL queries to support custom data extraction and reporting needs.
Participate in the migration to a cloud-based platform as the application stabilizes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, QA, DevOps) to ensure a stable and effective experience.
Document resolutions, workflows, and system improvements.
Qualifications and Pre-requisites:
University degree in an engineering or computer science program, with formal software training or equivalent experience.
1-5 years of experience in software development or production support.
Experience with software architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and validation.
Strong proficiency in Java
Comfortable writing complex SQL queries for business reporting and analysis.
Understanding of software development lifecycle phases including debugging and documentation.
Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), JIRA/ServiceNow, and CI/CD pipelines.
A humble, go-getter attitude with a desire to take ownership and deliver impact.
