West Point Grey Academy is currently seeking anAssociate Teacher to join our Senior School Faculty starting August 25, 2025, ending June 30, 2026. This is a term position that is suitable to provide opportunities for newly certified teachers to gain classroom experience and be mentored by experienced, expert educators.

This position will be compensated as a full teacher on our faculty grid, based on certification levels and years of teaching experience. This position is eligible to participate in the school's benefits program.

Our Senior School teachers are valued faculty members who, with the support of our Senior School Leadership and teaching teams, plan and deliver adaptive, future-focused curricula to students in grades 8-12. The Associate Teacher provides coverage as needed for various classes and supports extra-curricular requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides daily coverage and, when needed, longer-term coverage for teachers on extended absences

  • Deliver engaging, future-focused lesson plans and interactive learning activities/materials that follow BC curriculum standards

  • Under the mentorship of colleagues, adapt instructional materials to students' individual education plans (IEPs)

  • Assist in conducting formal and informal assessment of students, including report cards, progress reports and marking
  • Accompany students on experiential learning trips when required
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities as needed

  • Incorporate appropriate technology and media in lesson planning

  • Participate in school life and co-curricular activities

  • Model and promote our core values and high standards of behaviour in and out of the classroom

  • Support students and families with open, on-going communication

  • Actively participate in professional development sessions and faculty meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in education
  • Valid BC Teaching Certification (or demonstration of certification in progress)
  • Ability to competently cover classes in a wide range of curricular areas (Physical Education, Woodwork, Calculus and/or Spanish are assets, but not essential)
  • Experience in extra-curricular offerings are assets, such as Debate, Model UN, Music, etc.
  • Class 4 Driver's License would be an asset

  • Adept at integrating technology in class lessons

  • A passion for and experience working with adolescents

  • Team player who enjoys creative collaboration, and will work with colleagues to integrate programs and projects across disciplines, as appropriate

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Self-starter and continuous learner who values and has demonstrated teaching innovation and professional growth

  • Positivity, enthusiasm and a sense of fun
  • Familiarity with the BC curriculum
  • Superior ability to build rapport, trust and relationships with students and their families
