Job DescriptionThe Recreation and Culture department plans, delivers, supervises, and evaluates recreation programs and services in the County. It also supports community groups and organizations in their delivery of recreational services through the County's grant programs. This department is also responsible for the safe and efficient operation of County recreation facilities, trails, playgrounds, parks, campgrounds, and open spaces.
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for current and new County recreation initiatives (internal and regional) and programming, data collection and analysis for Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks, external grant applications for Recreation and Culture projects, contributing to department Request for Decision responsibilities and providing additional capacity to the Recreation Group.
Job Duties and Tasks:
Recreation Programming and Initiatives
- Initiate, organize and facilitate recreation programs, special events and activities
- Liaise, coordinate, contract and schedule specialized facilitators as required to deliver quality recreation programs, incorporating County safety and contractor protocols, and report on as needed
- Evaluate and provide an annual report on recreational programs being delivered within the County
- Identify emerging recreation programming trends and plan reasonable levels of year-round seasonal programming
Research and Data Management
- Gather, maintain and analyze community user data for County funded recreation facilities to support Council decision making
- Work with community groups at County sponsored community events to capture attendance data that will be used to report back to Council, as directed
- Research industry trends and best practices to support department objectives, as requested
Community and BBQ Ambassador
- Represent the County and the Recreation and Culture department at assigned community events as an Ambassador
- Act as the BBQ Host during the summer season for external community event requests
- Act as the department lead for external grant applications that align with the County's Strategic Plan or department's Business Plan
Special Project Support
- Assist with researching and implementing specific recreation themed Strategic Plan or Council initiatives
- Work with community stakeholders to optimize recreation facility capacity through user agreements.
Other Duties
- Assist with Council Reports. Help research, prepare, draft Request for Decisions (RFD)
- Contribute to a safe and productive workplace by participating in all required Health and Safety initiatives.
- Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Recreation Supervisor or Director of Recreation and Culture
- Diploma in Recreation or a related field
- Minimum of two years' experience in organizing and administrating recreation programs
- Experience in organizing special events, fundraising and proposal (grant) writing would be preferred.
- Previous municipal experience is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driving license required.
- Proficiency in operating a vehicle with a trailer preferred

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week). Occasional overtime or working during weekends may be required based on operational needs.
Work Environment: This role is performed mostly in-person in an office environment or in the field.
