Career Opportunity

We are looking for Garage Forepersons! This position will have you oversee the daily work activities of a unionized and non-unionized workforce with an emphasis on safety, operational efficiency and cost effectiveness to ensure budget objectives and department schedules are met.

You will manage the maintenance, servicing, inspection, repair, cleaning, and emergency road service functions for both revenue and non-revenue vehicles in order to provide safe, clean and mechanically reliable vehicles for the city of Toronto.

Location and Shift Details

TTC has 10 Bus Garages strategically positioned across Toronto, offering you the opportunity to work with industry-leading technology and setting the stage for a dynamic career. Our modern fleet, featuring hybrid and new electric buses, ensures a cutting-edge and environmentally friendly work environment.

Successful candidates will be placed at any of our 10 garages based on available vacancies. Your shifts and off days may vary from time to time based on business needs.

Valid Truck and Coach Technician (310T) certification with Interprovincial Red Seal is mandatory requirement for this role.

What You Will Do

  • You will supervise all aspects of maintenance operations at Bus Maintenance facilities (Garages, Shop or Wheel Trans) within the Bus Maintenance Department.
  • You will supervise a diverse team including licensed coach technicians, body repair/painters, machinists, millwrights, maintenance electricians, welders, certified wheel installers, unskilled servicepersons, vehicle dispatchers, steam cleaner operators, and janitors.
  • You will be responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance, technical support, legislative and usage-based inspections, and bus cleaning and servicing.
  • You will ensure that a sufficient number of clean, serviced and repaired revenue vehicles are available to meet the Department's commitment to the Bus Transportation Department (up to 300 buses)
  • Adhere to all MTO DriveON Safety Inspections certifying Semi-Annual and Annual inspections, MTO Certificates, and maintaining MTO documents on behalf of the Commission;
  • Conduct technical investigations and procedural quality audits as required

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Possession of a valid Truck & Coach Technician Certificate (310-T) is mandatory
  • Must possess a valid class G driver's licence with the ability to obtain a class “CZ” licence
  • Completion of a post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in Bus/Truck/Coach and automotive technology, mechanical, electrical or electronic or the equivalency of technical school graduation
  • Direct related work experience in an environment where diesel/gas/hybrid/electric (and future technologies) automotive components and vehicle bodies specific to large commercial vehicles would be inspected, maintained and repaired to safety critical standards, and prepared for service
  • Automotive Service Technician (310-S) is considered an asset
  • O.A.C.E.T.T. Certification is considered an asset
  • Welding Inspector Certification is considered an asset
