ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

BACKGROUND
The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc invites suitable candidates to apply for the position of Accounting Assistant. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Canada Office.
ROLE SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for reconciling accounts payables, receivables, and cash transactions, processing invoices, managing vendor accounts, and supporting month-end closing. They will assist with payroll, internal audits and maintaining financial records, ensuring accurate documentation, timely payments, and compliance with internal financial controls.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reconcile accounts payables, receivables and cash transactions to ensure accurate financial records.
- Process and pay invoices, ensuring online/electronic payments are handled promptly and efficiently.
- Perform reconciliations for vendor accounts, petty cash, security deposits and supplier statements.
- Assist with month-end closing processes, including accruals and prepaid expenses reconciliation.
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and track credit card payments and expenditures.
- Prepare and distribute Payment Advices to vendors.
- Provide financial assistance to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Support payroll preparation and assist in managing employee salary and benefit payments.
- Manage general finance inboxes, directing inquiries to the appropriate team members.
- Assist in internal audits by preparing financial documentation and supporting audit procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to internal financial controls.
SUMMARY OF KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline and at least 3 years proven experience in a similar role or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Working knowledge of financial and accounting principles and their application
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal relationship and collaborative skills.
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Conducts business activities with professionalism and integrity.
- Proactive, shows initiative and able to exercise independent judgment.

- Handles confidential information with the utmost
- Proficient in the use of MS Office suite of applications and knowledge of financial software.
- Must meet legal eligibility requirements to work in Canada.
