BACKGROUND

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc invites suitable candidates to apply for the position of Accounting Assistant. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Canada Office.

ROLE SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for reconciling accounts payables, receivables, and cash transactions, processing invoices, managing vendor accounts, and supporting month-end closing. They will assist with payroll, internal audits and maintaining financial records, ensuring accurate documentation, timely payments, and compliance with internal financial controls.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconcile accounts payables, receivables and cash transactions to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Process and pay invoices, ensuring online/electronic payments are handled promptly and efficiently.
  • Perform reconciliations for vendor accounts, petty cash, security deposits and supplier statements.
  • Assist with month-end closing processes, including accruals and prepaid expenses reconciliation.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and track credit card payments and expenditures.
  • Prepare and distribute Payment Advices to vendors.
  • Provide financial assistance to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support payroll preparation and assist in managing employee salary and benefit payments.
  • Manage general finance inboxes, directing inquiries to the appropriate team members.
  • Assist in internal audits by preparing financial documentation and supporting audit procedures.
  • Maintain strict adherence to internal financial controls.

SUMMARY OF KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline and at least 3 years proven experience in a similar role or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Working knowledge of financial and accounting principles and their application
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and collaborative skills.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Conducts business activities with professionalism and integrity.
  • Proactive, shows initiative and able to exercise independent judgment.
  • The ability to work under pressure and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Handles confidential information with the utmost
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite of applications and knowledge of financial software.
  • Must meet legal eligibility requirements to work in Canada.
