The ESG Analyst will play a pivotal role in advancing the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives at Ainsworth (a GDI company), focusing on environmental sustainability. Based primarily in Toronto, with the flexibility to be located elsewhere in Canada depending on business needs. The role involves collecting and analyzing environmental data, responding to client ESG surveys, preparing reports, and leading or supporting projects to minimize the company's ecological footprint, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and carbon credit programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect environmental data, including CO2 emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3), energy consumption, and waste diversion rates, from internal reports and operational databases. Prepare accurate, concise reports to monitor progress toward environmental targets.
  • Data Analysis and Visualization: Utilize tools like Microsoft Excel to analyze environmental data and develop visualizations (e.g., charts, dashboards) that highlight trends and opportunities, such as emissions reduction or resource optimization.
  • Environmental Initiatives: Support the implementation of projects to enhance environmental performance, including energy-saving programs, waste reduction strategies, and sustainable supplier partnerships, ensuring alignment with global frameworks like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Platform Management: Maintain and update environmental data in ESG software platforms (e.g., Novisto), ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting standards such as CDP, EcoVadis, and GRESB.
  • Material Preparation: Develop communication materials, such as brochures, fact sheets, or presentations, to showcase Ainsworth's environmental achievements to internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Audit and Compliance Support: Assist in preparing data and documentation for environmental audits and certifications (e.g., EcoVadis, GRESB) to demonstrate Ainsworth's commitment to sustainability.
  • Client ESG Requests: Respond to client requests for ESG-related information, including completing surveys and reports (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, or client-specific frameworks), and provide strategic advisory to meet client sustainability expectations.
  • Carbon and GHG Management: Support GHG quantification and action planning (e.g., Scope 1–3 emissions) and assist in developing carbon credit programs, including voluntary carbon market initiatives, to enhance Ainsworth's environmental strategy.
  • Leadership Development: Contribute to cross-functional ESG projects, assuming increasing responsibility to develop leadership skills, to transition into a senior or managerial role within two years.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ESG Frameworks: Strong familiarity with key sustainability reporting standards, including the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), CDP, and EcoVadis, to ensure compliant and effective reporting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and visualization, Word for report writing, and PowerPoint for presentations. Experience with ESG platforms like Novisto or tools for ESG data structuring (e.g., ST tools) is an asset.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret environmental data, perform GHG quantification, identify actionable insights, and apply mathematical or statistical methods to validate findings.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English for professional reports and stakeholder engagement. Bilingual proficiency in English and French is a valuable asset but not mandatory.
  • Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related field is required; a master's degree or graduate diploma (e.g., in sustainability, environmental management, or sustainable engineering) or professional certification is a strong asset. Senior candidates should have 7–10 years of experience in sustainability, ESG reporting, carbon management, or data analysis. Junior candidates with 1–2 years of experience (including internships or academic projects) will be considered for the role's growth trajectory.
  • Experience with data automation an asset, programming (e.g., Python, SQL), or ESG data structuring tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership through academic, volunteer, or professional roles, with a focus on strategic advisory or project management.
  • Professional certifications in ESG or sustainability (e.g., AFAV, GRI, or carbon accounting credentials).
  • Active involvement in environmental advocacy or community initiatives.
