Job Summary

The Senior Portfolio Manager, OCIF is an experienced professional that will support transformative investments in Calgary and assist with identification of projects aligned with OCIF mandate, evaluation of applications and business case proposals, managing fund disbursements, and fostering OCIF investments, to ensure a resilient economic future for Calgary.

This is a full-time permanent position with a minimum in-office requirement of 3 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Application Management

  • Manages the OCIF pre-application and application processes ensuring operational efficiency through engagement with various CED Teams.
  • Evaluates submissions in a fair and neutral manner, taking into consideration understanding of local innovation and startup ecosystem, including key players, roles, and interconnectedness.
  • Develop clear and succinct recommendations for file progression based on applicant eligibility.
  • Scoping new projects and opportunities in market.

Due Diligence & Deal Structure

  • Coordinate due diligence including financial analysis, company sustainability, project risks and metrics (collecting management information, financial data, competitor analysis, etc.)
  • Strategically identify and recommend terms and conditions for term sheets and contribution agreements for approval.
  • Prepare deal summaries, cover sheets, status update reports, for presentation to Board of Directors.
  • Monitor pipeline metrics; deal stage progression, timelines, due diligence completion, announcements, etc.
  • Foster existing OCIF investments to achieve success through integration into a support network.

Strategy Development & Execution

  • Lead the execution of OCIF strategies and processes, including creating new program initiatives, updating program processes, literature, and provide support for training activities
  • Develop OCIF program updates, including but not limited, to new intake streams and reporting frameworks.
  • Proactively updates strategy and program materials and leads development of materials including reporting to Board and City Administration and Council.

People Management

  • Manage direct report(s) and ensure the team member(s) understand role expectations.
  • Work with junior team members through regular and effective communication to assess workload, support OCIF Directors in determining priorities for the team, delegate projects and initiatives, and supervision; amending project work and directing workflows.
  • Appraises individual and team performance; continually assessing for quality and output levels and determining future resourcing needs

Education

  • Bachelors degree in business, accounting or finance or a related area.
  • CPA, MBA or financial management designation is an asset

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related area during which both professional and management capability have been clearly demonstrated
  • Minimum of 5 years in a management role.
  • Experience with government funding or venture capital programs, and mergers and acquisitions is an asset
  • Experience with platforms and tools like WizeHive, PowerBI, Google Notebook, Microsoft CoPilot, Dynamics 365, Big Query, Monday.com an asset

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
