Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of our health and safety programs within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will ensure regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement, and cultivate a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs in compliance with all local, provincial, and federal regulations (e.g., OHSA, WSIB).
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and key point of contact for all health and safety matters within the facility.
  • Risk Management
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Training & Engagement
  • Deliver or coordinate employee health and safety training (e.g., WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout, ergonomics, PPE).
  • Lead safety committees and engage cross-functional teams to promote employee participation in safety initiatives.
  • Claims Management, Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain all required safety records, reports, and documentation (e.g., injury logs, claim documentation, training records).
  • Track and analyze safety metrics and trends to develop actionable insights and reports for management.
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Oversee emergency response planning and drills, including fire safety, evacuation procedures, and first aid readiness.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable safety legislation and standards (e.g., OHSA, WSIB, CSA).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
