One of our major clients is looking for a Finance Advisor to join their team on a 14-month contract in Calgary.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and support a safety-first culture.
- Ownership of the work breakdown structure (WBS) of the project in SAP
- Custodian of the cost allocation keys between phase 1 and phase 2 of the project
- Finance support to change management and value improvement strategies (risk vs benefit analysis, cost vs schedule trade off etc)
- Close cooperation with Contracting & Procurement and Project Services to maintain a high level of project controls, mainly around contract management
- Coordinate expert support on finance topics such as tax, insurance, audits as required
- Active design and operation of quality Project Accounting & Financial Controls, covering project accounting, financial accounting and reporting
- Control delivery of annual expenditure to approved ceilings and budgets within the Define phase of the expansion project
- Responsibility for delivery of financial aspects of management information and reports
- Coordination of month end closure processes and reporting
- Support to assurance activities and senior stakeholder communication e.g. economics, value assurance reviews, audits and JV reviews
- Compliance with mandatory guidelines, adequate documentation support risk management reviews, ensuring mitigations are in place with periodic updates.
- Coordinate with supporting teams in Calgary and finance operations support in our finance operations centers in Manila and Chennai
- Support close out of Define phase and transition into Execute, including close out of contracts and project administration
To be successful, you will have:
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree and professional qualification in accounting
- An experienced and competent professional in diverse (finance and project controls) areas with at least 5 years' work experience. Audit experience with an Accounting Firm will be beneficial.
- Good inter-personal skills; used to dealing with a range of different stakeholders and team members. Used to deliver through influencing without direct authority
- Excellent problem solving skills and analytical abilities
- Resilient under pressure, strong personal leadership
- Solid system thinking and proficient user skills of finance modules in SAP
This role requires that you:
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
- Number of direct reports: 0
- Work normal hours
- It is expected that the successful candidate for this position will reside in the Calgary office during the Phase 2 Define phase.
- Be involved in a multimillion USD lump sum Execution Competition contract and a multibillion USD EPC contract.
- Key External Interfaces: Phase 2 Execution Competition Contractor, Suppliers (subcontractors including vendors).
- With the Phase 2 team being a relatively small team, the role requires flexibility to expand the scope to core discipline matters. This provides the opportunity to develop further in engineering coordination or an interface role in support of the project manager.
- The intent of the role is to roll over into the execute phase (subject to suitability) to maximize learnings in support of efficient execution. During further development of phase 2, there are ample opportunities to develop leading a growing team (during the execution phase).
