About the Role:
Are you a natural leader with a passion for creating fun, engaging and safe environments for children aged 4-17? If so, YMCA of Northern Alberta wants YOU to join our team as the Day Camp Coordinator!
In this role, you will play a key part in our day camp operations, including coaching staff and volunteers on best practices in behavior management, program design, team communication and collaboration to ensure campers and their parents/guardian have a positive experience. This is a great opportunity if you have an interest in building your confidence and improving your leadership skills through mentorship, with the guidance and support of experienced supervisors.
This is a contract position from May 20, 2025 to August 22, 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and supervise day camp staff and volunteers, providing regular feedback to ensure high-quality programming.
- Deliver exceptional day camp programming and support camper success by assisting in the development of strategies for behavioural challenges.
- Coordinate camp logistics, including schedules, field trips, and supplies, ensuring smooth operations.
- Lead program planning sessions and assess day camp programming for all Summer Day Camps.
- Assist with managing schedules, addressing parent concerns and staff evaluations.
Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- High-school Diploma
- Pursuit of post-secondary education in a field connected to children and youth (Recreation, Child Studies, Education, Physical Education, etc.) is an asset.
- Experience working with children and youth in a camp environment is highly preferred
- Customer service experience is an asset
- Must have Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C prior to hire (the Y will provide support in registration)
- Satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to your first day of work (required if 18 yrs and over
