Job Summary
This position is for face-to-face teaching in Calgary, not online. Only local applicants will be considered for this substitute teaching position. The majority of our teaching is General English (all levels), and then we also run specialty modules' classes in academic preparation, conversation, business, IELTS preparation etc. We also offer introductory certificate courses in business marketing, management and project management. Our students are mainly international adults, each looking to study to achieve their own personal goals. Class sizes can be anywhere from 2-16 students. Bayswater teachers are supported with regular check-ins, PD sessions and a robust online platform to support learning and aid in planning.
Key duties & responsibilities:
Teaching English language as per the timetable and agreed with the Director of Studies
Be prepared to teach a range of different levels, age group and courses, including but not limited to:
General English from beginner to advanced level
Exam preparation classes (IELTS and Cambridge Suite exams)
Business English, Academic English, and ESPs
One-to-ones and closed groups
Young learners
Plan lessons to meet the needs of the individuals in your class, considering student feedback and performance on weekly progress tests
Follow the syllabus outlined while adding your own supplementary materials
Use our online portal My Bayswater My.Eurocentres for the following:
Creating a weekly plan and keeping a record of work done
Setting homework
Conducting weekly tests
Conducting and tracking monthly tests
Regular tutorials
Providing supplemental materials for students self-study
Complete class registers daily
Keep open channels of communication with Director of Studies and co-teachers.
Take part in and where appropriate deliver PD sessions
Be prepared to take part in school functions outside the classroom, such as induction, graduation ceremonies and social programme, from time to time
Demonstrate willingness to be a team player by being available for last minute cover, including for evening classes
Submit timesheets in a timely fashion
Read and adhere to all the systems and processes outlined in the Teachers Handbook
Knowledge, Qualification and Experience
Essential
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Valid TESL Certificate, CELTA , Trinity Cert.
Experience Teaching English to International Students
Experience of using technology in the classroom
Desirable
Cambridge Delta or Trinity Dip TESOL or equivalent (TEFL-Q status)
MA Applied Linguistics and ELT/TESOL
Two years post-certificate teaching experience
Experience of teaching exam preparation courses
Experience of teaching ESPs, such as Business, Academic English
Experience of working with juniors

Bayswater is committed to the professional development of all its staff. We aim to support teaching staff in ongoing professional development, by providing regular training and development sessions that teachers are expected to attend and have the opportunity to lead on occasion. Teachers are observed regularly to help them continue to develop their classroom practice, as well as to monitor performance. We encourage and as far as possible facilitate our teachers doing further qualifications such as the Dip TESOL or Delta. Please see the Teacher Handbook for further details.
