About the Role:

The Northern Alberta YMCA is looking for an Aquatics Manager to create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while providing effective supervision and risk management to the overall delivery of all aquatic programs. This role is working on strategies to improve the members' experience, affecting an increase in retention, program quality and overall member satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach, train and develop staff and volunteers.
  • Ensures the program and service experience for members and participants consistently meets and exceeds YMCA standards and supports membership retention and the HFA UVP.
  • Collaborates with their Program Manager to establish and adhere to annual budget and program priority plans. Ensures timely execution of annual priority plan.
  • Lead and coach Aquatics Operations Coordinators in implementation and execution of annual priorities
  • Work with Aquatics Operations Coordinators to ensure adherence to and management of annual budget plans
  • Support Program Manager to ensure programs and services evolve with YMCA Canada updates, established trends, member or community demand or common best practices
  • Maintains positive, collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Supports General Manger with branch operations at assigned HFA Centres.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a program leadership capacity including experience in supervision, coaching and performance management, and in program management, finance and administration
  • University degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, or related experience an asset.
  • Certifications: Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C, National Lifeguard (NL) Pool, must hold one of YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI) or Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)
  • Obtain Lifesaving Swim Instructor (LSI) and YMCA Champion - Aquatics within 1 year of hire date.
  • Obtain Oxygen Administration (O2) within 6 months of hire date.
  • Aquatics Emergency Care (AEC) and National Coaching Certification (NCCP) are an asset.
  • Leadership Certification in Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST), National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI) or First Aid Instructor (FAI) is an asset.
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check.
  • Must obtain employer specific WHMIS and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level currency without expiry, as well as physical and mental readiness.
