Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Data Governance Specialist to support a high-profile data migration initiative within our Data Governance & Data Protection group. This role will ensure that governance standards, data quality controls, classification frameworks, and protection policies are effectively applied and maintained throughout the migration lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in data governance within a regulated financial environment, with a deep understanding of metadata management, lineage, compliance, and data protection practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with business units, data owners, data stewards, and IT teams to ensure data governance principles are embedded in all phases of the migration project.
- Define and implement data quality rules, data classification, and data lineage mapping for migrated datasets.
- Ensure data privacy, protection, and retention policies are enforced across migrated data assets.
- Assist in identifying critical data elements (CDEs) and maintaining their definitions, ownership, and usage post-migration.
- Review and validate metadata and data dictionaries to ensure consistency across systems.
- Support the assessment of data risk and impact during migration from legacy systems to new platforms.
- Work with compliance and legal teams to ensure adherence to internal governance policies and external regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA, SEC).
- Monitor data governance KPIs and provide post-migration assurance and reporting to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with data architects, engineers, and project managers to align technical migration activities with governance controls.
- Maintain documentation and provide training and knowledge transfer as needed to business stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Quality, or Data Management, preferably in financial services or investment firms.
- Proven experience working on data migration projects involving structured and unstructured data.
- Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), policies, and processes.
- Experience with tools such as Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation, Solidatus, or similar governance platforms.
- Familiarity with metadata management, data lineage, business glossary creation, and stewardship models.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance standards (GDPR, CCPA, SOX, etc.).
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Certification in CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or similar is a strong asset.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in investment or asset management firms.
- Background working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, AWS, GCP).
- Familiarity with data protection technologies (e.g., data masking, encryption, DLP).
