Position Overview
Lauren Services is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support the development and execution of I&C engineering designs for industrial projects in the Oil & Gas, Power, and Petro-Chemical sectors. This role will involve working on a variety of engineering tasks and providing support through all phases of project execution. This is a hybrid in-office position with flexible work hours and access to our EIT Mentorship Program.
Responsibilities
- Prepare I&C design deliverables including instrument indexes, loop diagrams, wiring and termination drawings, control panel layouts, and system architecture diagrams
- Extract and analyze information from P&IDs and process documents to support design activities
- Specify and select field instruments and control devices based on process and design requirements
- Develop control philosophies, cause & effect matrices, and system narratives
- Support site visits, commissioning, and start-up activities
- Create material specifications, data sheets, and support technical bid evaluations
- Review vendor documentation for compliance with project requirements
- Ensure adherence to applicable industry codes and standards (CEC, ISA, CSA, etc.)
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including project managers and other engineers
- Maintain compliance with Laurens health, safety, and quality management procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering from an accredited institution
- 25 years of experience in engineering design, preferably in oil & gas or EPCM environments
- Enrolled or eligible for enrollment as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) through EGBC
- Solid understanding of control panels, DCS/PLC systems, loop drawings, and field instrumentation
- Experience with control system architecture and industrial instrumentation
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and other applicable standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Project management experience is considered an asset but not required
