RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, loads and unloads the trucks manually and/or using equipment supplied by the company
  • Reports all inventory, shipping and receiving discrepancies (including quantities, quality differences, damages and substitutions) and obtains proper authorization before receiving, shipping or delivering the order.
  • Stacks, places and covers merchandise carefully on the trucks to avoid damages during transportation under the drivers supervision and assistance.
  • Verifies the equipment for safety and secures merchandise with straps, ropes, corner guards, tarpaulins and other equipment as per the type of products to secure with equipment supplied by the company.
  • Directs the driver in parking and backing up the vehicle in all areas and at all times
  • Upon arrival on the job site, follows the drivers instructions
  • Always wears hard hat, safety boots including other personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed when exiting the truck cab. Follow the Act and Regulations applicable when on jobsites.
  • When on job site; walks the path and loading location with your supervisor to recognize, assess and control potential hazards.
  • Where needed wear your Fall Protection equipment and per Construction Projects Regulations.
  • Prepares the openings and the floor for the placement of material.
  • Verifies and uses equipment to carry the drywall and products as per the allowable loads and loading procedures.
  • When the trucks final position is set, uncover the load, fold the tarpaulin when applicable, store the tarpaulin and other equipment on the cradle and in belly box as per the assigned location.
  • Untie the load and get it ready to unload as per the drivers instructions
  • Whenever guardrails or scaffolds are removed on delivery site by Morin Bros Building Supplies Inc to load drywall and other materials, it must be reinstalled. This must be done as soon as the unit is loaded or when leaving the area unattended for any period of time while loading material. Failure to reinstall the guardrails constitutes a safety hazard and a serious violation
  • Material is to be placed squarely as per designated area determined during the walk of the place and Regulations applicable to be followed.
  • Once the material is unloaded, bring back all the blocks (do not throw anything into the garbage bins on the jobsite). Verify that all the equipment is back into the truck storage area, secure and verify the load. Guide the driver if the truck has to back up. Always make sure you keep eye contact when backing up. Never stay between fixed and moving objects.
  • Assist the driver in getting a signature on the documents before leaving the jobsite when necessary.
  • Keep the floor and back seat of truck cab clean at all times. All garbage to be disposed of immediately when returning to base
  • The helper/drivers helper will be courteous to the customer at all times. Verbal and/or any other type of aggression is not permitted.

  • Other duties as assigned. When not sure ask your supervisor.

EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to do arithmetic, read orders, write instructions and complete forms.
  • Previous experience in heavy lifting is an asset.
  • Communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment as prescribed in designated areas

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Strength (lift, carry, push and pull): Maximum lift, 100 lbs.; Frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, with manual dexterity and see acute depth perception and field of vision.
  • Trunk rotation with 20 lbs. at arms length 180 degrees from side to side.
  • Bend, stoop or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis.
  • Reach over head to grasp materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work outside in temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold.
