Our client is seeking a Purchasing Agent based in Saskatoon to oversee all purchasing, procurement, and inventory management activities at their local processing plant. This role plays a critical part in supporting both plant maintenance and fleet operations by ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of parts, materials, and equipment. The successful candidate will help minimize downtime and drive value through effective sourcing, negotiation, and inventory control.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day purchasing activities, including sourcing, tendering, and purchase order creation.
  • Ensure competitive bidding practices are carried out whenever possible.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels and respond promptly to urgent and emergency supply needs, including after hours and weekends.
  • Receive, store, and issue incoming materials and tools in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain accurate inventory systems using computerized tools.
  • Operate forklifts and other hoisting devices in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Support major capital expenditure projects through strategic sourcing, tendering, and contract negotiation.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing, product quality, and reliable delivery.
  • Ensure materials leaving the site follow established documentation and approval procedures.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and uphold company values.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in purchasing and inventory management, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with inventory software and procurement systems.
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain) and comfort managing physical inventory in a warehouse or plant setting.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, crouching, and working in adverse conditions (heights, confined spaces, cold, and around animal by-products).
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
  • SCMP designation (or currently enrolled) is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with emergency response or time-sensitive supply support is an asset.
