Job Description

Strategic Communications Lead

The Adams Agency is Western Canada's go-to full-service communications firm — trusted in crisis, called on to shift public sentiment, and known for reaching audiences through creative media and public relations campaigns.

Whether it's a high-profile media campaign, a sensitive stakeholder issue, or a joyful rebrand that needs to land with heart — our team shows up with strategy, creativity, and composure. We work with nonprofits, civic institutions, businesses, advocacy organizations, and values-driven brands doing work that deserves attention. And we make sure they get it — through the news, in people's feeds, at community events, and everywhere in between.

We're looking for a Strategic Communications Lead who can think like a strategist, write like a journalist, and executes like a creative campaign manager. Someone who understands that public sentiment isn't shaped in one place — and knows how to reach people where they are: online, on air, and in real life.

The Role

This is a senior, hands-on role. You'll take the lead on client files — helping develop big-picture communications strategies, craft key messaging, pitch stories, and execute communication campaigns that are polished, persuasive, and perfectly timed.

You'll be supported by a team that's fast, collaborative, and fun — and you'll be trusted to do great work without being micromanaged.

No two days will look the same. One week, you might be crafting a calm, measured response for a client under pressure. The next, you'll be writing radio scripts, briefing influencers, and managing a photo shoot for a province-wide awareness campaign.

This is a role for someone who knows their craft, understands the nuances of public audiences across Canada, and wants their work to mean something.

What You'll Do

• Lead client relationships and act as the main point of contact on 2–4 files

• Develop communications strategies, messaging frameworks, and campaign plans

• Write: press releases, op-eds, social content, speeches, reports, backgrounders, and more

• Pitch media and follow up until the story lands — especially in time-sensitive or high-profile moments

• Collaborate with creative teams, designers, videographers, and content creators

• Coordinate with influencers and partners to bring campaigns to life across platforms

• Help shape deliverables that range from internal updates to large-scale public campaigns

• Mentor junior staff and contribute to our internal standard of excellence

You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in strategic communications, journalism, or public relations
  • • Exceptional writing skills across formats and tones
  • • Strong media relations experience — you know how to pitch, follow up, and frame a story
  • • The ability to lead complex projects with confidence, clarity, and care
  • • Familiarity with digital campaigns, social-first content, and influencer coordination
  • • A strategic brain, a creative spark, and a deep respect for public audiences
  • • Required: experience with issues management, public sector comms, or civic campaigns

  • Strengths That Matter in This Role

    • You're a natural communicator — someone who can translate complexity into clarity, and urgency into action

    • You can juggle priorities, deadlines, and personalities without dropping the ball

    • You're strategic and thoughtful, but also fast and solutions-focused when it counts

    • You don't wait to be told what to do — you take ownership, show leadership, and ask smart questions

    • You care about doing great work, making an impact, and being a supportive teammate along the way

    Why This Role, Why Now

Our work spans public service, arts and culture, business, equity, health, economic development, and more. Some of our clients are in crisis. Some are launching something bold. Some just need help telling their story with clarity and strength.

You'll help lead that work — with autonomy, trust, and the backing of a team that loves what they do.

    We offer:

    • Competitive salary and bonus opportunities

    • Benefits and flexible hybrid work

    • High-impact work and high-profile files

    • A creative, values-driven team that moves fast and collaborates well

    • Room to grow as we grow

    Education:

    • A degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, political science, or a related field is preferred — but equivalent experience and portfolio strength will be strongly considered.

If you're ready to lead smart, strategic, creative communications in a country that's always changing — let's talk.

Please email your cover letter and resume to: [email protected] .

Deadline to apply is June 4, at 4pm.
