About the Role
The Preschool Day Program (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten) is a tertiary-level, interdisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic educational resource for children aged four and five who are experiencing severe challenges managing or regulating their emotions and behavior, such that they have been unable to participate meaningfully in the home and community options. The program is intended to provide intensive family-centered diagnostic review and therapeutic education, developmental intervention and clinical care in a specialized early childhood setting.
The Mental Health Therapist will:
  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments for patients.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans using a variety of treatment approaches.
  • Formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM V-TR and/or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals utilizing a variety of developmentally appropriate treatment approaches including family therapy, individual therapy and group therapy.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational and/or therapeutic groups for adolescents and parents.
  • Carry out case management functions including: convening case conferences and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the youth and family (especially education, social services, justice and health).
  • Participate in the intake and discharge processes.
  • Complete written discharge summaries.
  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
  • Advocate on behalf of the youth and family as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions. Experience in schools or the education system is preferred.
  • Current registration in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
