Sir James Douglas Out of School Club (SJD OSC) is a child care provider proudly serving children and families in Victoria, BC for over 30 years. We offer before- and after-school care (K - Grade 5), Preschool, Jr. Kindergarten and Spring/Summer Camps out of our facility at Sir James Douglas Elementary.

JOIN OUR TEAM OF PASSIONATE EDUCATORS
Our Early Years team is looking for a passionateEarly Childhood Educator (ECE) to guide and implement intentional, play-based learning in our Preschool and Jr. Kindie programs. Youll play a vital role in planning and delivering learning opportunities, supporting childrens development, and building strong relationships with families and colleagues.
Working in partnership with a team of three other Educators/Assistant Educators you will plan, organize and facilitate fun and inclusive programming for 18 children 2.5-3.5 years old that follows the BC Early Learning Framework and is licensing compliant.
This position is for the 2025/2026 school year. The position will begin in September 2025.
WHAT YOULL BE DOING
Program Delivery
- Maintain consistent program delivery while introducing creative, age-appropriate and engaging lessons, projects, and activities based off the evolving interests of the children enrolled.
- Facilitate engaging daily circle-times with songs, stories, and games.
Classroom Management
- Manage classroom challenges and proactively guide positive behaviour using program guidance strategies.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Individualized Learning Support
- Observe and assess each childs development, adapting guidance strategies to meet their unique needs.
- Provide one-on-one support to help each child thrive.
Monitoring & Documentation
- Use the Lillio app to document observations, weekly photos, and monthly developmental summaries for each child.
- Track curriculum progress and effectively communicate updates to parents.
Family Communication
- Maintain open and regular communication with families in-person and through Lillio about their childs progress, classroom activities, and any concerns.
- Create monthly newsletters and activity calendars.
Health & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
- Carefully follow program policies and child care licensing regulations to ensure the well-being of all children and staff.
Professional Development
- Participate in professional development opportunities regularly to stay current with best practices.
- Co-lead bi-monthly Community of Practice meetings with fellow educators to promote a culture of learning and reflection with the broader team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 19+ years of age
- Valid ECE certification (Special Needs specialization preferred)
- Clear criminal record check
- First Aid & CPR Level C (have or be willing to obtain)
- Be able to provide two professional references
- Ideally has 2+ years of experience in a licensed child care setting
