The Class 3 Driver is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to assist our skilled equipment operators and tradespersons. This position will perform labouring activities and operate a water, gravel and/or crane truck as required per Projects needs.
Location & Hours:
This role is for our various Projects throughout the East Kootenays, with shifts varying depending on the requirements of the Project. A typical workday is 7:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. and again is subject to the needs of the Project. There may be occasion(s) where overtime is required but is not expected to make up a major component of the role.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Gravel hauling with tandem, tri-drives, box trucks/pups
Load and unload construction materials, and move materials to work areas
Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at construction sites
Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt
Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
Assist in aligning pipes and perform related activities during oil and gas pipeline construction
Level earth to fine grade specifications using rake and shovel
Assist in demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools, and sort, clean and pile salvaged materials
Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment
Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed
Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps
Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants, and remove asbestos and other hazardous materials
Oil and grease hoists and similar equipment
Direct traffic at or near construction sites
Pre and post job checks on commercial trucks and trailers (tandem, tri-drive, box trucks/pups)
Attend and participate in morning toolbox meetings
Ensure that all necessary paperwork and reports are completed and submitted daily
Ensure all equipment is properly maintained
Oil, grease, and clean equipment daily
Work with supervisor and other operators to maintain an orderly and safe work site
Advise the Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repair
Daily submission of daily timecards
Qualifications & Skills:
Commercial and/or off-road Class 3 Driving experience
Clean drivers abstract
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective verbal and listening communication skills
Ability to understand and effectively execute verbal and written directions
Adheres to company Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standard assessments
Knowledge in repairs considered an asset
Safety conscious
Detail-oriented
Position requires a high level of initiative and a positive attitude
Must be able to give and follow both oral and written instructions
Excellent computer skills
