The Opportunity:

We're looking for an AVP or VP, Builder's Risk Executive Underwriter to join our growing team! The successful candidate will leverage high-level strategic thinking and leadership skills to influence significant outcomes within the organization and the market. This role is ideal for an executive eager to drive impactful change and shape Liberty's standing in the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Champion Liberty's Guidelines for Inclusion, advocating for their adoption across the organization. Build personal DE&I knowledge and act as an early adopter of new DE&I skills and processes to drive positive change.
  • Grow a portfolio of target new first-party Construction business, underwrite and negotiate policy terms and conditions to deliver best returns for Liberty
  • Expand and maintain broker/client relationships to facilitate profitable growth of Construction products through independent sales calls, attending client meetings and representing Liberty at industry events.
  • Continuously develop and expand expertise in mainly first party product lines and claims trends, providing recommendations for improvement, as appropriate.
  • Provide high-level mentorship and guidance to underwriters, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Position Liberty as the preferred insurer among target brokers by exemplifying service excellence and superior underwriting acumen.
  • Keep the senior leadership team abreast of key developments on the Construction portfolio and broker/market intelligence.
  • Evaluate local market conditions, recommending strategic adaptations to ensure market relevance and competitiveness.
  • Lead by example in collaboration with other Liberty business units in the identification of cross-marketing opportunities.
  • Actively participate in product development discussions, leveraging insights to influence future strategies.
  • Liaise with the Construction Practice Leader/Management to ensure consistency with underwriting protocols and product strategies.
  • Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload.
  • Other duties and initiatives as may be assigned

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years related insurance industry experience focused in Construction
  • Experience in underwriting construction energy projects considered an asset
  • University degree with a focus in business, engineering or applied science considered an asset.
  • Self-starter with proven analytical skills and a proven track record in a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting that drives profitable growth.
  • Experience working within a guideline framework, underwriting authorities and protocols.
  • Demonstrated broker relationships with global, national and regional brokers.
  • Able to successfully identify, facilitate and execute portfolio rollover opportunities, market or sector segmentation opportunities and target accounts.
  • Comfortable with critical thinking and a growth mindset, with thoughtful consideration of diverse perspectives during decision-making and respectful of differences.
  • Able to respectfully give and receive positive and constructive feedback.
  • Effective at managing internal and external meetings with professionalism and clarity while driving mutual accountability for results.
  • Effective at change management and adapting to new systems and processes.
  • Helps drive innovation through a growth mindset, viewing roadblocks as opportunities for growth and supporting new idea testing, training, and ongoing monitoring of changes.
  • Demonstrate advanced prioritization skills, managing workload efficiently to align with organizational priorities.
  • Exhibit leadership in steering initiatives and assuming responsibility for other duties as required.
