They are currently seeking a Health and Safety Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of site safety and compliance.
Position Overview
The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs and procedures in accordance with applicable legislation and company standards. This individual will be a key leader in cultivating a safety-first mindset across construction operations, with a proactive and hands-on presence on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of workplace health and safety, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB, and internal safety protocols.
- Conduct regular site visits to perform inspections, hazard assessments, and risk mitigation planning.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents or near-misses and prepare detailed reports and action plans.
- Develop and deliver onboarding, toolbox talks, and safety training programs customized to field conditions and scope of work.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including inspection reports, incident logs, training attendance, and WSIB documentation.
- Provide guidance and support to field staff, subcontractors, and site leadership in daily safety practices.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and third-party inspectors during audits or inspections.
- Monitor safety trends and metrics, reporting findings to senior leadership with recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Promote a culture of accountability and proactive hazard recognition throughout the workforce.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction industry, ideally with experience in mid-to-high rise residential projects.
- Sound understanding of the OHSA and Construction Regulations in Ontario.
- Safety certifications such as CHSO, CRSP, NCSO, or equivalent are preferred.
- Proven ability to influence, coach, and lead in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficient in using safety software platforms (e.g., SiteDocs, eCompliance) is an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver's license with access to a vehicle for regular site travel.
