About the Role:
The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for creating technical drawings for a variety of custom conveying machines. The Senior Mechanical Designer must collaborate and work closely with project managers, engineers, electrical, purchasing, and production.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations while driving innovation and efficiency in our manufacturing processes. This role requires strong project management skills, expertise in material handling equipment and process equipment design, and a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Mechanical design of large and technically complex machine handling equipment
- Use Autodesk Inventor/ vault / 2D AutoCAD to create drawing specifications in line with the needs of the client
- Ensure design drawings conform to specifications and design data
- Write technical reports
- Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) for both purchased parts and raw manufactured materials as required
- Look for ways to complete jobs in a more efficient manner
- Mentors' other designers with the mechanical design and detailing of larger systems
- Coordinate with purchasing and production to ensure part quality and timing
Qualifications, Skills, and Attitude:
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in designing custom conveying machines.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technologist.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) considered an asset but not required
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical design software, AutoCAD, Inventor, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Experience creating drawings for a fabrication shop environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Self-motivated with enthusiasm for challenges and new initiatives.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Innovative thinker with proven problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a face-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Knowledge, application and adherence to technical and safety standards, industry best practices and regulations in George A. Wright's field of business.
- Adhere to company and customer site safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and actively participate in safety training and hazard prevention practices. Ensure that Good Manufacturing Practices are adhered to at all times.
Working Environment
- The majority of the time will be spent working in-office at our manufacturing facility (Scarborough, ON).
- The incumbent will be expected to occasionally visit work sites to measure for equipment, with occasional travel to customer locations across the GTA as required.
