Junior Project Controls Specialist (Cost Control)

Vancouver, BC

Introduction

Brunel is seeking a Junior Project Controls Specialist (Cost Control) to join our clients growing team. This role will support the successful delivery of projects by assisting in cost tracking, reporting, and project administration activities. It's a great opportunity for a junior professional looking to develop foundational skills in cost control and gain exposure to the full project lifecycle in a collaborative and high-performance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with tracking project costs, including commitments, expenditures, forecasts, and variances against budget.
  • Support preparation of monthly cost reports, cash flow projections, and financial summaries for internal and client use.
  • Coordinate invoice tracking, timesheet data entry, and verification of vendor and subcontractor billing.
  • Maintain and update project financial data within internal systems (e.g., Excel, ERP or project controls software).
  • Assist project managers with purchase requisitions, change orders, and budget updates.
  • Support document control and project administration tasks, including meeting minutes, deliverable tracking, and filing of project documentation.
  • Liaise with accounting, procurement, and other departments to ensure accurate and timely project cost information.
  • Contribute to internal audits and compliance activities by maintaining organized, accurate cost records.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in project support, cost control, or project coordination, preferably in mining, EPCM, or infrastructure.
  • Strong numerical and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with cost tracking tools or ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, or similar).
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
