POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The successful applicant will be a results-oriented Manager with a strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join the Finance team. You will provide exceptional day to day leadership to the team member focused on financial processing, reporting, and analytics. You are passionate about quality and are a proven leader and a strong team player.

This position is full-time working at our Head Office in Richmond Hill, Ontario and will report to the Director of Finance, and work in close coordination with Union Reps, Clerical Staff, management team, and others to refer and consult regarding financial reporting and accounting matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of accounts payable and dues processing staff providing ongoing support, training and mentorship.
  • Successful performance of team of direct reports, processing, analysis, reconciliation and reporting (internal/external) deadlines, with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Review lease agreements and certain other contracts for reporting requirements including collaboration on system set up.
  • Manage insurance renewals and all related activities related to insurance contracts.
  • Manage the relationship with third-party vendors providing financial services, including corporate credit card program and employee expense system.
  • Review and approval of cheques, Interac e-Transfers, EFT and Wire payments on a timely basis.
  • Management of month-end closing and reconciliation. Participation of year-end and audit including planning, reporting, adherence to deadlines, and being a key contact with external auditors.
  • Management of accounting and financial activities for all related parties including preparation and review of annual financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Staff recruitment, engagement, development, training, performance reviews and issue resolution.
  • Represent Finance on project teams as required as Subject Matter Expert. Collaborate with other departments on business requirements and design solutions.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A CPA designation is required.
  • A minimum of five years of proven managerial experience including a strong teamwork orientation and a hands-on, proactive management style is required.
  • A strong understanding of Accounting Standards for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity of tax compliance reporting and information return for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with software used is preferred: 1) Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains 2) UnionWare Enterprise 3) Excel – requires advance skills-data analysis, pivot tables, formulas
  • Detail oriented, as well as the ability to think in an overall sense
  • Excellent organizational and technical skills are required
  • Proven ability to multitask, meet deadlines and deliver results in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including being able to influence as necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT

  • Office work may involve prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation and repetitive movements associated with such tasks.
  • Prolonged use of a computer.
  • Frequent use of telephone for communication.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required to meet operational needs, including during special projects or peak period.
